I realized it has been a year now since Tiffany and I have been writing blogs and I have yet to do a blog on my very favourite city in the world – Miami South Beach. Really I LOVE this city, where else can you have beach, sun, nightlife, shopping and great food all in one hot and great people watching city! I have been every year for the last 5 years, many of the trips romantic weekends with my husband but I have had some wicked girls weekends and even celebrated my 40th birthday there with my sister and her husband – come to think of it we spent my brother-in-law’s 40th birthday there too!
So for me one of the best parts of South Beach is the Tides Hotel. It is the quintessential art deco South Beach hotel that has the most beautiful rooms you have ever seen (even nicer in person than the picture here on their website) and no other hotel is Miami has every single room facing the ocean.
I took the picture myself out our room window. The sun filters in and you can hear the rumble on Ocean Drive as the day wakes up to volleyball players while the day ends with a drink on their front patio (a must have is their white wine sangria) and watch the crowds cruising the famous Ocean Drive while the drag queen show goes on next door for the best ever show in town (Sundays is the time and place to watch from the front patio).
Once we thought about mixing it up and on a girls weekend tried another hotel, after 1 day we called the Tides and we were back for the rest of the trip.
Typical Day in Miami
Ok here is a typical day in Miami – wake up late, chill in the most soothing room in the world, a walk down Ocean Drive for a coffee, breakfast at the Front Porch Café (another quintessential staple of Miami South Beach and right on Ocean Drive), visit to the beach to soak up some sun and a walk on the beach (The Tides has a dedicated area with wicked plush sun chairs included in the cost of the room) and then back to the pool for a drink and some solid book time.
Then the evening takes hold with a cocktail on the front patio of The Tides, followed by a short walk to Lincoln Road to shop and stroll (if you need to eat on Lincoln Road there is way too much to choose from but the best Italian place has the blue awnings across from J Crew – honestly that is how the hotel described it, we found it and hands down the best pizza on Lincoln Road).
So finally dinner, there is so many great restaurants to choose from. For pure romance you have to try Casa Tua with the most beautiful patio in the world and outstanding food. For a spectacular view and fantastic food you have to try another amazing Miami hot spot Juvia with a rooftop view of south beach and it turns into a night club for those who are ready to take on the night high above the city.
Two must visits in Miami are Prime One Twelve for steak with a side of incredible people watching and Joe’s Stone Crab, old school with white table cloths and suited waiters but awesome food! Don’t try to tackle it on a weekend as the wait is hours long since they take no reservations but the crowd is fabulous. A Sunday or weekday is always better for no wait times. The restaurant is down at the tip of Ocean Drive so probably a quick taxi ride but fun to walk home back to the Tides.
My husband and I love to walk home checking out the restaurants and shops on Ocean Drive at night, the city is just so alive! I have to admit I have never tried one of these crazy but we needed one after getting caught it a complete down pour one night walking home. Check us out after being caught in the rain that night – all the more fun!
Honesty I promise you visit Miami South Beach once and it will be stuck with you forever.
