So I know what you are thinking – Niagara Falls with the family? The place known for honeymoons and heart shaped tubs. Well my kids loved it so much my 4 year old son has requested we go back for his 5th birthday in lieu of a birthday party. There are plenty of Niagara Falls family fun packages to choose from. For hotel options there are 2 good ones. You can stay at Great Wolf Lodge which is only a 5 minute drive from downtown Niagara Falls – we spend the morning in the water park then head into town for the afternoon and dinner. If booking Great Wolf Lodge it is worth the kids cabin or wolf den with bunk beds for the kids and a little more privacy for mom and dad. Psst – ask for a room facing the outdoor water park, it gets afternoon sun and you are not staring at a parking lot.
The other option is staying at the Sheraton on the Falls which is right on Clifton Hill where all the action is and overlooks the falls (not to mention sits a top a Starbucks for mom & dad and the Hershey chocolate store for the kids). In the summer on weekends they even have a fireworks display that you can see from your room if you get a falls view. Psst- if you don’t want to pay the price for a falls view the city view is great too as it looks up Clifton Hill.
Fun Activities for the Kids
So now what to do with the kids – you need to get a Clifton Hill Fun pass that includes all the main attractions which will save you a ton of money. It covers the Dinosaur mini golf with exploding volcano, the Ferris wheel ride, the wax museum (do the movie themed one across from Ruby Tuesday’s – the kids loved it with everything from ET and Batman to Katy Perry).
There is another pass to for younger kids that includes the Fun House, indoor/outdoor jungle playground, lego land and other activities. You don’t think you are going to do them all but the kids love them and you end up doing them all anyways so get the savings with the passes. There are some serious haunted houses for those with the stamina for being scared to heck- not my style but pretty funny when the ‘Chicken out door’ leads into the kids outdoor jungle playground – very funny to watch!
For dining there is your trusted family friendly Montana’s and Kelsey’s but there is also a Keg that has been renovated in the Embassy Suites and is a great treat for a nice steak and good bottle of wine.
I cannot complete this blog without recommending the 2 funniest and best parts of our weekend which was the Greg Frewin magic show and the behind the falls boat ride. The kids loved the magic show and I have to say I was wow’ed – a fun evening out with the kids that you won’t forget. Our kids convinced us to pay for the after the show backstage tour and they got to pat one of the beautiful Tigers.
For the behind the falls boat ride you get in the blue rain coats and still get soaked to the bone but I have not laughed so hard, what a memory!
So hit Niagara Falls with the kids for a fun-filled weekend you and the kids won’t forget!
